Cessna Citation Sovereign

The Citation Sovereign has everything a business jet is supposed to have: high performance, comfort and economy. The jet has coast-to-coast range, and all the features that make the midsize private aircraft such a good choice. It can take off in less than four thousand feet, and has a cruising speed of Mach .75. The cabin is just over 25 feet long, and can seat anywhere from eight to twelve passengers. It's large enough that most passengers would be able to stand up easily, and it has the largest baggage hold in its class.

The bathroom is also quite spacious, and passengers are assured privacy because of the double sliding doors. The nonfluorescent lighting has dimmable LEDs, which can last up to 100,000 hours, and both cockpit and cabin can be cooled pre-flight by the APU. The Citation Sovereign is a popular choice with both pilots and passengers, and it was designed to make flight as simple as possible, with uncomplicated flight control systems. Most startup functions are fully automatic, and if there is an issue during engine start, it shuts down automatically.

The Sovereign has very smooth taxiing and landings because of its trailing link landing gear. All gear has double wheels, which are meant to last three hundred landings or more. The carbon braking system is exceptional and will also last more than three hundred landings. The flaps have a variable gearing mechanism to change their angle to anywhere between fifteen and twenty-five degrees, resulting in less change in pitch. The one area where Cessna did not simplify things is the wing; it has a 16-degree sweep at the leading edge and a 12.7-degree quarter cord sweep. The design improves airflow and lift, allowing it to reach cruising speed easily.

The plane is fitted with Pratt & Whitney PW306C turbofans, providing 5,600 lbs. of thrust per engine. They are flat rated to cut down on noise, and the plane has both an engine-driven fuel pump and a backup, DC powered system. For Cessna, safety is always a priority, and every part of the Sovereign, from its simplified flying operations to its emergency systems are meant to prevent accidents and simplify flight. The Sovereign complies with both FAR part 25 and JAR 25 standards. For a jet that has only been sold since 1994, the Sovereign has done quite well. It is favored by both passengers and pilots for its range, versatility and simplicity.
